Historic Organs on CD
42 CDs with Organs and Organ Music from 5 Centuries
Up until the 20th century, every European country had its own organbuilding tradition, which either imposed limitations on composers or
opened up new technical and tonal possibilities.
The aim of the recordings, made between 1978 and 2018, was to showcase, as far as possible, the music that was ideally played, or at least
could be played, on the organs in question at the time of their creation.
High-quality and historically relevant organ works by 188 known by
name and 20 anonymous composers were selected, as well as pieces
from 18 tablatures and organ books, played on 89 organs.
… an unparalleled thesaurus of instrument portraits … an immense
repertoire of exceptionally high-quality recordings … (Michael B. Weiss,
KLASSIK heute, March 12, 2014)
Each booklet is like a documentation. Texts on the history and disposition
of the organs, as well as the recorded works, and numerous photographs
leave nothing to be desired. (Gregor Willmes, Fono Forum 8/2000)
